I have now touched and handled real 15th century silk velvet (from a chasuble), it was short-napped like cheap cotton velvet, but much tighter woven and soft as a kitten's belly. This is big for me - now I understand how it felt to wear velvet in those days.

And I saw some nice medieval children's shoes and this beautiful example of perforated medieval shoes:
