frualeydis: (16th century)
[personal profile] frualeydis
A couple of months ago the principality of Nordmark was contacted by a Nest verch Tangwystl (I recognize the name, but don't know her - does anybody here do?) asking if someone could give her information on 16th century women's clothing in Sweden. I volunteered, but haven't had the time to write anything proper yet. I did, however, offer to send her my collection of images, but didn't get an answer; maybe my e-mail ended up in the trash-box. Be that as it may, I thought that if I'm going to write a good enough answer I may just as well write it in a form that can make an article for the Kingdom Newsletter, if not for a scientific journal (no time for that, and not enough new research yet). So that's what I'm doing now. It's also a good start for thinking about the section covering this period in my next book about gender and clothing (in Sweden) 1500-1830.

Oh, wonderful subject, that sounds very interesting. Especially when coming from you, cause you're not just focused on one dicipline, and you also knows what it takes to MAKE a garb and hence understand the full picture. I'm looking forward to the result (and to follow the progress, if you post anything along the road).

Oh, excellent! I hope that the copies are available to more than just the Kingdom you live in...perhaps a Complete Anachronist or Tournements Illuminated article?

Nest is a talented lady from the East Kingdom. I've known about her for a while but had a brief opportunity to meet her at Pennsic. She does clothing, fiber arts, and archery.

If that article will be available to people outside of your Kingdom, I'd be very interested in reading it!
