It's neither complicated nor perfect, but I think it looks pretty good. Hopefully it will be suitable for the intended recipient too.

I't about three metres and [livejournal.com profile] haugtussa and I dyed the silk yarn together a couple of years ago.

Tablet weaving!! Did you use a loom for it? I tried to do a simple weaving with no loom and cardboard cards and it was a disaster. I want to figure out how to do it, but it's sort of intimidating now. That looks gorgeous, and quite long! What beautiful colors!

No, no loom, just cards and the warp tensioned between a table and my waist, where it was tied to a belt. I would lveo to have a loom though, it would make it easier to try more complicated weaving.

I always seem to end up with slightly different lengths for the warp, no matter how carefully I wind it. So I use an Ikea desk/shelving unit (Broder with L-feet) as a warp weighted ribbon weaving loom. I sit at the desk portion and it has a hanging rod above the desk that takes my warp. I put a couple of metal nuts at the ends of the warp for weighing it down and tension's pretty darn even. If I need to go do something else, I can tie the end to the desk or clamp it down. It's not very portable, but things come out really pretty.

Theoretically, I could try weaving wider fabric, but I think the heddle (rods) wouldn't have anywhere to go when not in use because I'm using it sitting down. It would be entirely possible though to make a vertical loom to stand at out of these parts or using T feet, now that I think about it. Heh.

I just got an inkle loom that's big enough to use for card weaving as well. I'm doing an inkle band first, but card weaving is next!

Beautiful colours!

I'm kind of wanting to try a double-weave pattern. I just need to find a good, cheap yarn (I have some buttonhole silk but it's a bit expensive to experiment with).

My last card woven ribbon was done on a loom. My neck and shoulders can't take the stress with the tied-to-the-waist method. Another good thing about setting up a card weave on a loom is that you can leave it there for ages and it doesn't get tangled up or anything.

Very pretty pattern! The colours make me think about "Twelft Night", Malvolios flame-coloured stockings.

What is it to be used for?
