frualeydis: (1940s)
[personal profile] frualeydis
Over a year ago [livejournal.com profile] ashariel gifted me with a vintage 1940s sewing pattern. Since I'm really not very experienced when it comes to using real, store-bought patterns it has waited quite a long time. After a few successful attempts with self-made patterns for 1940s clothing I finally felt ready to tackle it. I still need to make the belt, but since I didn't have a suitable buckle at home that had to wait until tomorrow. The shoes are wrong of course and I really ought to be wearing stockings and possibly a snood in some other colour than burnt orange. But leaving all those things aside I'm pretty happy with it - and I finally made something from my Liberty print cotton.

Hii! ^^ Pardon if this seems super random but I found your profile cause I saw you're into sewing! I'm just starting out (as in I just finished my first project, yay), so I was wondering if you'd like to be LJ friends. ^.^

Not sure how you feel about random friend-age but I'm a pretty normal person ^^; Er, let me know! <3 :D

It's okay. I don't know most of my LJ-frieeds IRL.

Nice! I personally think the line is cleaner without a belt.

what did you find challenging about the pattern, and was it already in your size? I'm curious...

It was nominally in my size (bust 42), but had too much ease, so I ended upp not cutting any seam allowances and taking it in at the sides and in the skirt. The most challening part was understanding all the instructions, since they were 60 years old and in english and I'm really not used to sewing after patterns. But asied from that it really went together quite easily.

Hi I left you the comment about shopping. And I just want to say that I love this dress. You have a real talent for sewing. And a great eye for what looks good on you. It looks so good on you. I hope you are doing something with this talent. If you would like to be my friend that would be great cause I would love to see more of your work. Thanks Maggie
