I bought some pattern magazines from 1930 and 1931, which arrived yesterday. It is definitely a style that won't suit me, but I bought them mainly for teaching purposes. The front covers can be seen at my swedish blog.

It's not my style either, really.

Did you see the black and white dress from the 60s or 70s my mother gave me? http://sneprinsesse.livejournal.com/519967.html

Any thoughts about when it's from?

Not more than you idea: late 60s, early 70s. It was very cool.

I think I must take a close look at old photo albums.

I'd say early 1970s rather than 1960s. I remember my mother sometimes wore dresses like that, but that was definately not in the 1960s.
That doesn't prove that other people didn't wear dresses like that in the 1960s, but I am sure my mother didn't.

Fashion usually comes a bit late to Norway :) The dress is Norwegian made (it says so on the back of the label, I found out after taking all the pictures)

I tried googling the maker but no hits.

Looks interesting.
I wonder what women in those time did with their hips and boobs. Did they force them into corsets? Or did they just stop eating hoping their boobs and hips would dissapear?

Tube like corsets with rubber were much used by those unfortunate enough to have curves. Dieting was also in vogue, but the ideal was, of course, not as skeleton-like as today.

I see.
Women in the late 1920's and early 1930's were not really skinny, not like the skeleton-like supermodels of the 1990's. But they were very curve-less.

The skeleton look of supermodels is a little later than 1990. This Cindy Crawfrd and Linda Evangelista - those women had curves! It wasn't until the turn of the century that 'heroin chic' came in.
