A dress from 1883
Nov. 30th, 2004 01:55 pmIn the book Fashion. The collection of the Kyoto Costume Insitute. A History from the 18th to the 20th century on page 260 there's a dress from 1883 (Worth) that I call "the bordello dress" in wine red striped and flower-patterned silk velvet. It can be seen at the museum's web site too, but you have to scroll downward on the page.I think this fabric which is on sale now would be perfect to make that dress (without the flowers though). I won't do it however, I'm more an 1860s girl and anyway I think it's tasteless.
