Yesterday I made a hat
Aug. 30th, 2010 05:24 pmSince I can't watch TV or a film without doing something with my hands I started making a hat from a place mat while watching a swedish thriller from the 1950s called "Mannekäng i Rött" (Model in red) about murders in a Fashion store.
The place mat was made from a braid from polyamide and cotton. Though straw would have been easier to shape afterwards by dampening the hat it worked out quite nicely. But you have to get the shape right from the beginning.
It's one of those hats that look like a small sombrero with a flatter crown, quite common in photos from the 40s and preferrably worn tilted forward.

Today I went downtown to get shoulder pads for a dress I finished on Saturday and some flowers to decorate the hat with. This is the finished result:

I have decided that I will try and translate all the posts I make in my swedish blog and post them here too. This will mean more photos of me in my everyday clothing, but I don't think I post so much that it will totally fill up yur friends' page.
