frualeydis: (16th century)
[personal profile] frualeydis
I have decided to make a matching jacket for my red 16th century kirtle. [livejournal.com profile] litensessa has a very nice english style jacket which matches her red kirtle, but since I mostly tend towards Flemish, and occasionally German, styles I looked at woodcuts by Weigel and Joost Amman showing these regions for inspiration. Like these:

This far I have made a mock-up from the lining fabric and tacked them together. I have a cold and my arthritis is not being kind to me, but as soon as I feel up to lacing myself into the kirtle I will try it on.

It's from Weigel's book of costume, which was printed in 1574. The actual woocuts may be a little older of course, but propably not much.
