I am in no way the SockDreams fanatic I used to be. They're as good as ever, but my current style incorporates less colourful and stripey socks than I used to wear. I also have quite a lot of socks. Mostly these days I buy sheer stockings for suspenders from them and occasionally some knee highs. So I had missed these, the "Extraordinary thigh highs". Finding thicker stockings long enough to be worn with garter belts, which don't get baggy around the ankles and feet, but are wide enough for my thighs has been an ongoing quest of mine. One solution are the lovely wool stockings from Levante, but they only come in black, brown, beige and dark navy and I like stronger colours occasionally. Or at least more colours to choose from.
These are burgundy.

Oh, thanks for the tip! Thight fit is a problem of mine, too.

I wish I knew of any good sock/stocking shops nearer to home, though. Like in the EU.

I am missing my addiction to sockdreams, if I ever get a settlement from work, part of it is going towards restocking my stockings!

Love, luv.lurve those shoes btw! Fantastic!

Also, on another note, can I use some of your blog entries on vintage fashion for a paper I am working on in craft history? I want to talk about the rising vogue for retro fashions made in new fabrics to fit our modern bodies.

Definitely - and I think it'a a very interesting phenomenon I myself would love to have time to explore more. And the competence, being an expert on medieval clothing doesn't necessarily prepare you for studying modern sub-cultures and fashion trends.

I used to call myself a costume historian, but I am more of an observer of the sociology behind the clothes we wear, both in the different periods and today.
I find it fascinating that (we) are all experimenting with reproducing vintage fashions at the same time, small we, as in the group of people I have been observing who are very much like me on lj. In the 80's did you experiment with punk/rock-a-billie/early goth? I am wondering if there's a correlation.

I was a punk for a while, but there is a differenc ein that punk was then alive, it was not a revival. In the late 80s I was very much into the hippe style and that was much more of a revival/retro thing.
But I don't think I do that much of a revival 40-s-50s thing, not compared to others at least, it's more like I've found and interesting period to sew which I can actually wear in my everyday life. Usually I don't do the hair and have more modern shoes and coat though. it's more like an influence than a recreation.
