Waking up to the news of at least 80 young people being shot and killed on that island in Norway. Killed by the same man who set up the bomb, killed because they belonged to the Labour party. The killer was apparently a right wing extremist intent on killing those horrible socialists he saw as responsible for norway's (rather small) immigration.

It breaks my heart. I can't see how I'm going ot be able to enjoy that hen party I'm going to today.

May the gods of our forebears be with them.

I was just watching the news and for a brief moment, I thought they put in an extra 0 by mistake. Last night, it was less than ten, now it's more than eighty D:

The Dutch news was very sparse with the details, but the BBC had eye witness interviews and aerial footage of the island. It really hit me that it was a pretty tiny place, there wasn't really anywhere to go and the sick bastard used a uniform to briefly lull people into trusting him. There really is no excuse for this sort of thing.

I hope your friends are OK. You could see the hen party as giving the finger to anyone who wants you and your friends gone. Still, if it doesn't feel right, you can't force it.

How can someone do this? One man??

My sister in law has just turned 18, and there is a fair chance she had some friends at that camp. She is scared.

Utøya is on the way to our summer farm (hytte), and I have passed it hundreds of times. And the government buildings are close to Games Workshop, so theoretically I could have been in that area, and it attracts many children on their shcool holidays.

This does not happen in Norway!

I used to work at a summer camp and the idea of someone coming in and doing that is just so hard and horrible to process. Nothing excuses such savagery. Nothing.

The best way to combat terrorism is to do the opposite of what they want, and what they want is to change you, the way you live, and the world around you.

Live your life the way you have, the way you see fit, live with love, and that kind of evil cannot win.

That's very close to what the Norwegian prime minister said.
