In april they discovered that i (for the first time in my life) had high blood pressure. So I was told to got to the health clinic regularly and check it. There they decided that I ought to see a doctor to and gave an appointment on the 18th of August. Prior to that, I should go and take some tests yesterday. Fasting.
Well I did, and I went home and when I had been home for an hour or so the doctor called and asked if I could come and see him immediately.

Not a good sign.

Well it turns out that my thyroid has gone hyper and need to be knocked out with chemo, radiation or just removed and then have synthetic hormones for the rest of my life. Until that is doen I have to eat beta blockers to slow down the heart rate. Unfortunately it doesn't help against all the other symptoms and I hate having a lump in my throat. I'm going back on Monday for more tests and then I'll see him Thursday, but if it continues they may have to do something faster than planned.

I do feel more sick than yesterday, which can be just because I know now, but also can be because it's getting worse. In any case I can't lie down now, because tomorrow I will do the handfasting of two friends, with 70 guests and all the trappings of a big wedding. I hope I feel well enough then.

Man, sorry to hear it. :( I hope you're feeling better soon.

I hope you don't mind my asking, what your throat feels like? I have times where it feels like I've got a lump in my throat but I'm not sick or upset and then it abruptly goes away.

:(

Positive thoughts being sent your way, but really thyroid pills every day are nothing. :)

I guess not, since I take so many other pills. it's thekilling off of a gland I need to live with radiation that I don't like. And to feel this bad fot moths maybe, until it gets done. I have a job to do.

Yeah, I can see that part of it.

My thyroid is pretty much dead, but it happened by my own strange immune system, not radiation. :-/

the thyroid goes in our family too, all the women eventually have to have it out. I have been told that other interesting side effects occur because of having it removed too, like it's easier to maintain the weight...another problem all the women in my family battle.

Eva, I'm on horomone tretment for other reasons now, not birth control, and will be for life. It's not a huge deal. I wish you the best and a speedy recovery!

I already gain and maintain weight easily so I don't look forward to when they have taken it out.

I've got hypo-thyroidism and it made me feel like Homer Simpson. 2 of my friends have recently been diagnosed with Hyper as well.

My thyroid was like flogging a dead horse. I hope they get your treatment sorted quickly so you can back to an even keel.

Thanks. I hope so too. I hate being too warm and dizzy and having a lump in my throat.

Do you get hormones?

I'm on thyroxine for the rest of my life and it's just 2-3 little white pills each day. I don't see a difference if I forget a days pills but there is a noticeable change after 5 days.

Hugs!

When I feel stressed, I can 'feel' my throat but it isn't painful or restricts my breathing. It's like if someone is lightly pressing on the side of my windpipe. It concerned me first up but after ultrasounds etc, they reassured me that it's a normal feeling.

Just remember that your's still a wonderful, beautiful person.

I'm so sorry to hear it. I'll be thinking of you this week and I hope you'll feel better for the handfasting. It's such a joyous occasion and the love of it might lift your spirits. You always seem in a better mood after celebrations. Take care.

It was a wonderful wedding and despite that I felt bad in the morning and up to my second beta-blocker I felt good durign the ceremony (cool castle ruin so I wasn't too hot) and through the dinner, we didn't stay for the party.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you can get good treatment and come through this reasonably easily. Or at least come through it, if easily is not on the menu. *hugs* I hope you feel better after the handfasting.

I just saw this now (I'm having trouble viewing my friends page in Firefox, I just opened it in IE now and that worked).

That really, really sucks. I hope they'll be able to sort it out without too much pain for you. I'm holding thumbs for you and sending hugs and good thoughts.
