In april they discovered that i (for the first time in my life) had high blood pressure. So I was told to got to the health clinic regularly and check it. There they decided that I ought to see a doctor to and gave an appointment on the 18th of August. Prior to that, I should go and take some tests yesterday. Fasting.
Well I did, and I went home and when I had been home for an hour or so the doctor called and asked if I could come and see him immediately.

Not a good sign.

Well it turns out that my thyroid has gone hyper and need to be knocked out with chemo, radiation or just removed and then have synthetic hormones for the rest of my life. Until that is doen I have to eat beta blockers to slow down the heart rate. Unfortunately it doesn't help against all the other symptoms and I hate having a lump in my throat. I'm going back on Monday for more tests and then I'll see him Thursday, but if it continues they may have to do something faster than planned.

I do feel more sick than yesterday, which can be just because I know now, but also can be because it's getting worse. In any case I can't lie down now, because tomorrow I will do the handfasting of two friends, with 70 guests and all the trappings of a big wedding. I hope I feel well enough then.

Yeah, I can see that part of it.

My thyroid is pretty much dead, but it happened by my own strange immune system, not radiation. :-/

the thyroid goes in our family too, all the women eventually have to have it out. I have been told that other interesting side effects occur because of having it removed too, like it's easier to maintain the weight...another problem all the women in my family battle.

Eva, I'm on horomone tretment for other reasons now, not birth control, and will be for life. It's not a huge deal. I wish you the best and a speedy recovery!

I already gain and maintain weight easily so I don't look forward to when they have taken it out.

I've got hypo-thyroidism and it made me feel like Homer Simpson. 2 of my friends have recently been diagnosed with Hyper as well.

My thyroid was like flogging a dead horse. I hope they get your treatment sorted quickly so you can back to an even keel.

Thanks. I hope so too. I hate being too warm and dizzy and having a lump in my throat.

Do you get hormones?

I'm on thyroxine for the rest of my life and it's just 2-3 little white pills each day. I don't see a difference if I forget a days pills but there is a noticeable change after 5 days.

Hugs!

When I feel stressed, I can 'feel' my throat but it isn't painful or restricts my breathing. It's like if someone is lightly pressing on the side of my windpipe. It concerned me first up but after ultrasounds etc, they reassured me that it's a normal feeling.

Just remember that your's still a wonderful, beautiful person.
