The blouse is now finished and looks really nice if you ask me. I made the button holes before I went to Anna to sew and planned to sew the buttons there. Unfortunately the buttons were not in the bag I thought they were so instead I ended up boning the front piece of my new 16th century corset. I boned most of it before Maja and I had to go home. Then we put her to bed and I sewed the rest of the buttons. I will wear it tomorrow to work although I see a little problem with that. My skirts are a little loose in the waist and tend to move down and since the blouse is rather short, intended to be worn with a skirt that stays at waist level, it might ride up and out of the skirt. But I don't know until I've tried it.

still impressed...

well, anyway. found a painting with the most marvellous pink mid-1860s dress. and i immedeatly thought of you. was a portrait of the countess Hallwyl. it almost made me change my mind about that bustle dress... i can email a image if you would like? or if you have the museums catalogue "sköna juveler" from 2000, its there on p 129! along with a photos of her jewellery.

/m- who studied corset constructions last might to try to figure out what kind of construction my body would need. (but there too little of me to mould into form. i'll just look the same whatever period corset i wear...)
but maybe something like this?

Pretty corsets. I think I will go for the 1868 corset (http://homepage.mac.com/festive_attyre/victorian/75diary/undies.html#2.1) that [livejournal.com profile] jenthompson made. It's a little late, but corsets with a basque were used as early as 1840 and it's so pretty. I will never look like her dress dummy does in the pictures, but hourglass is a good shape for me too.
And I don't think you will look the same in an 19th century corset as in other periods corsets. I assume that you have tried 16th and 18th century corsets, but they are designed to make you into a cone, a cone with a very rounded front in the 18th century, but still a cone. This is a totally different shape which curves at all seams. You will look pretty and delicate.
About the pink dress: The university library has the museum catalogue so I'm going down there to pick it up now.

well, your cerainly right about the 16th C and 18th C corsets. not much difference there on a teenyweeny girl like me.

i do have hopes up for the 19th c. and i've always dreamt about getting such nice hour glassy form... think the most important for me is to get a good and firm bust support even though i'm small. that's why i picked the 1873, it's very flat in the front (which i think makes it tight enough) and then curves out to the sides. don't have enough bust to curve out much both in the front and out towards the sides...
the second one was mainly interesting because it seamed to give a nice bust lift.

well, at least i have somewhat broad hips to compesate for a tiny bust part ;)

Yes! Unless it's hideously expensive.
