This day that started so badly has turned out much better than I thought it would. First I learn that [livejournal.com profile] guyelfkin, the kindest evil bunny around, has bought a book for me that I can pick up when I go see him in April and then I call home (to tell Rickard I love him, because I just heard "She bangs the drums" by the Stone Roses and it evoked some fond memories) and Rickard tells me that my samples from Denverfabrics has arrived.
There's nothing like a fabric fix.

We'll have to discuss samples since I think I ordered a few similar ones to what you did. :D

Taffeta

Yes, I think there are several that are the same. I ordered the patriot blue and the royal blue taffeta to see if any of them would be good for my 19th century corset, but the patriot blue was a bit too dark and the royal blue too "electric". What I really would like to have is something like this corset (http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/frames.shtml?http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/MOLsite/piclib/pages/bigpicture.asp?id=165). (And in satin, please.)
I also got the red/blue changeable taffeta, which was much lighter than on my monitor. It still created avery pretty effect, but not as dramatic as I had hoped. The ruby red lightweight taffeta was a little lighter and more pinkish than expected, but it's a colour that is really good on me, so I might get some and make a bliaut later. I think it is too thin for mid-19th century though. Not that I have handled any original clothing, but they look like they're a little more substantial. The green/purple taffeta was, as you said a lot duller and more green than in the pictures, but I like it a lot and eventually, if/when I get enough money I will order it and make myself a 1850s ball gown.

Oh, I forgot. When you follow that link, note that the Museum of London claims that this is the _back view_ of the corset. I would like to see anyone close a busk in the back! It's hard enough in front, since it needs to be straight to be snapped on and most of us aren't straight in the front.

I ended up with the brick dust, plum wine, patriot blue, and sierra taffetas in this second bout of swatch ordering. I ended up ordering 6 yards each of the patriot, plum, and brickdust to make kirtles out of. The brickdust one ended up being such a smashing color I just adore it. Its a pinky rosy red that just makes me happy. The sierra is a red and pale yellow shot taffeta that is really pretty I almost got some of it as well, but budget and all that silly nonsense. I like the patriot blue but yes it is very dark, it will make for a nice somber kirtle though. It will look good under my spanish surcoat. The plum I got mostly for the fact its purple. I adore purple. I am going to make the kirtles with matching tudor false sleeves and regular detachable sleeves so that I can get more wear out of them :D

Hmm, brick dust sounds interesting. I'm going to take a look at that.

That corset is fabulous by the way! That is too funny about them calling it the back. I adore that color. And just from a personal standpoint it looks as if it will brop low enough in the "back" *snicker* to cover up my Mommy belly :D

I had a 50s petticoat that color once it was like an ultramarine blue/black shot something or other. I had no fabric knowledge at the time.

That silk satin that I pointed out to you in the ivory color a post or twelve ago was a pathetic disappointment by the way. It was so very very thin and a very insipid shade of ivory to boot, more like over watered cream. *blech* I will keep an eye out though and if I find something I will let you know. I drool over fabric sites far too often.

I can't pay for the book at the moment!

The silly seller hasn't activated all the payment options so I can't get any farther than that screen on the ebay process...{sigh}!

I've emailed them to poitn this out.

I bought a book from her and paid via PayPal. I think it's the same woman, Hayleyanne.

Paypal don't give accounts to people who don't have surnames.

I only bid on E-bay UK. auctions that accept personal cheques, or other e-bay auctions that will take non-paypal credit-card payments.

The Auction for the book said she would accept cheques but she only activated the PayPal option on the payment page.

Still no reply from her....

Odd. She replied very fast to me. How much time do you have to pay it? Maybe we could arrange so that I pay it now after all if it's not too late. I get money on monday (and then I'm going to BorĂ¥s to buy fabric, lovely fabric, at least to look at it.)
