So now I know of at least two places to get reeds, since Grannd does sell to outside the US and Bess had found a place in Colchester that sells reeds.Which I should choose depends on the price I guess. Grannd is cheap, but I don't know how much the shipping would be. On the other hand I don't want to create work for Bess (BTW, how much was the postage for the jacket and how can I give it back to you?). I'm leaning towards Grannd since people have tried their reeds and liked them, but I need to know how much I need for a fully boned corset. The length is possible to calculate of course, but I don't know how much it is in the coils.
Sigh.

Maja is really ill now, she had a really high temperature the whole night and was very hot when I left for work today too (Rickard is at home). I know it's common that small children get very high temperatures so I'm not worried, but I feel so sorry for her. She's so tired and uncomfortable.

Poor Maja. I hope she gets better soon.

I never ordered from Grannd, but I've heard of quite a lot of people who have had problems with getting their stuff properly. The wrong things, broken things, etc. I don't want to scare you off, but I thought it could be useful knowledge.

I wouldn't mind getting the split cane for you - the only issue is getting it when you require it. It may be that I saw something that *looked* like split cane so I don't know if it WAS split cane.

I'm in Colchester on Saturday anyway so it makes no difference to me. Could get some for myself but I don't have the time for making a new effigy corset just at the moment. Need to wait till I have a full weekend back to myself again which doesn't involve packing up our place in Colchester.

And the postage was about £10.00 (sterling).

I'm really not in a hurry. I'm not finished with the pink gardecorps yet and I want to make a version of this (http://medieval.webcon.net.au/extant_holy_roman_tunicella.html) for Rickard. I can start on that when I've finished the gardecorps (which should be in the nearest two days or so). I haven't decided if I should use thin berry red wool or burgundy silk twill yet. The original is in silk so I guess I should use that. It's just that it would make such a nice cotte for me.
But back to the cane; see if it's split cane and if it looks like something you would use for a corset. Then we can discuss details.

lets put it this way...I have boned two nearly fully-boned corsets and have hardly made a dent in that coil...there's a LOT of reed there. I am sure I could get several more corsets out of just that coil. You do have to cut around some curved/twisted bits, but i think thats just a natural characteristic of the reed.
