frualeydis: (effigy stays)
In the spirit of making over my yellow and black 16th century gown so that I can wear it now I've decided to also take this one in so that it fits me. It's the same story: it fits in the bust but is too wide in the waist, it is also a little too long in the bodice. My first idea was to throw it away, or just use the skirt, it is well made, but the front-buttoned low necked bodice is AFAIK not period; it was inspired by a gown in Elizabeth, I had just started with elizabethan and didn't know better. I don't have enough fabric to make a new bodice, but I think I look so good in it and I really want to wear it again! And then I thought: this is the SCA, no-one will kill me if I wear it and as long as I tell people that it's wrong no harm will be done.

The remake of the yellow and black gown is finished. It's a little long in the bodice where the side trim goes down, but I won't move the skirt now. It also gaps a little where my rib cage ends but I only need to lose a kilo, which I plan to do anyway, to make it sit better.

There are still some things I need to fix, for example I need to take in the waistband of the forepart, the reason it's hanging down in one side is that it is 6-8 cm too wide in the waist. I also need to fix some better way to attach the white brocade sleeves than pins, because they escaped and one of the sleeves started "wandering" down - we can't have that when I'm drinking at an event. I also want to make some new headwear.
