Boar hunt

I had a great time at Boar Hunt. I drank a little too much on Friday night and got to bed too late, so I was rather tired on Saturday, when the three main activities took place: an archery trail in the nearby forest, where we shot at plastic and paper animals (3D and flat), a lunch inspired by a hunting lunch by Gaston Phoebus' Book of the Hunt , followed by fighter training where the fighters took the roles of hunters, dogs and boars. Of these I took part in the lunch and the archery trail, when they were fightig I hung out with friends and then had a quick dip in the lake (13 degrees C). That was followed by more skinny dipping, but this time after sittign in the sauna for a while with the fighters. Very nice and great fun, I like our fighters.

The archery was great fun. This was my first real attempt at archery - I have tried it a little at a friend's place once and one shot at St.Egon this year. And I hit "animals"! Not many, but still. Here's my outfit:

This is my old pink cotte, that I made in 2008, and a green surcoat made from handwoven wool twill, made around the same time. It is based on Herjolfsnes 39 , though without the piecing and the lace holes in front. I also wore a bycocket sewn from wool flannel and lined with silk.

After the fighting we had dinner, and I got some really good stuff with egg, apple and saffron instead of the meat (since I turned lacto-ovo-vegetarian in June). Then we went to court, which was nice and short, before returning to the dining hall and dessert. And more drinking with my friend Erik.

In all, a really good event. Next event for me will be Kingdom University, which I am arranging.

Cat news

I came home to Esau being in heat for the first time - and neither she, nor her foster sister enjoyed it. So first thing Monday morning I called a vet and on Tuesday we got the cats into cages and brought them to the clinic and got them neutered.
This was the first time that Kenya was put in a cage since that traumatic event when she had only been with us one week and was forced into the cage (and gave me a really bad bite which needed antibiotics). Since she was born wild and captured one week earlier that seems only reasonable.
One reason why had postponed the neutering was that we didn't want to destroy her trust for us. But now it was definitely time and she still seems to trust us. She did jump up to her favourite spot behind me when I sat in the living room hand sewing, after just a few hours.
Both of them removed their cones in five seconds, but luckily they don't lick the wound much, so all the stitching is still intact. They also don't seem to be in pain, so the pain killer bottle is still unopened.
In all, MUCH easier than I had anticipated.
