I am officially envious of you all americans (and that doesn't happen very often!) for having Halloween. The commercial powers tried to sell in Halloween here a couple of years ago but it never caught on and it had a very plastic feeling anyway, like the whole purpose of Halloween was to buy stuff. It's very hard to transplant a custom like that, I can't think of any really successful attempts right now. So here we don't celebrate Halloween.
But I want to dress up! But not necessarily as something from a horror movie and it seems like when they tried to transplant the dressing up on Halloween custom to Sweden somone decided that only horror costumes would do. When I look at you party pictures and costumes it doesn't seem to be so in the US. I guess I could make a nice 16th century ghost.
There are some clubs/pubs that have Halloween parties here in town but I'm not really the type of person that goes out to clubs. And definitely not alone and I can't think of anyone to go with.
Sigh.
Why are there never any fancy dress parties???

Same here. They've been trying to import the Halloween custom to Norway too, but it just doesn't work. But I would LOVE an opportunity to dress up AND get candy for it..... ;)

Definitely not limited to horror costumes by any means. You'll just have to start throwing your own Hallowe'en fancy dress parties - and they'll become so popular that the word will spread and before you know it, Sweden will be celebrating it! ;)

Same here. I really want to dress up, it's not like I don't have a costume! :) But it hasn't really caught on here either and it is mostly blamed for being another commercial trick to get people buying more.

I think it is the same in all europe : in France, they tried to introduced Halloween some years ago, and the kids tried to make trick or treat, but the least you can say is that they were not warmly welcomed !

For once that the commercial powers seamed to have a good idea...

I agree with Sister Sola : Costumers should make there own fancy parties, and then everyone will follow :)

There is a simple solution to this. You need to come visit us in the US over Halloween. :-)

Seriously if you want to come over sometime I am sure [livejournal.com profile] melaniesuzanne would not mind if I offer you a place to stay.

Trick or treat

Thank you.
When I have money enough I _will_ go to the US and visiting my internet friends are high up on the list.

Then you simply have to arrange your own party next year. Plenty of time to book the perfect place, send out invites, and for the rest of us to book flight/train tickets. I know I'd come. I'm sure others would too.

Yes, but that's too much work and I have a baby at home. I just wanted to go to a party. I never go to any parties.
