Yesterday was the swedish national day so people where free from work. We didn't participate in any of the organized activities (nationalism is not my thing, too many bad consequences), but I put on my folk costume and we went to a party. It was a party held by my colleague Hauwa Mahdi to celebrate that she had defended her dissertation on monday and now has her PhD in history. I brought all my kids, since she said that was perfectly okay according to Nigerian custom. It was a nice party though Maja got a little bored and wanted to explore the forest behind, that's where the photo is taken. The hippie girl is Vendela and the other one Valeria. The picture is click-able.

Yes, isn't it? Very late 18th century, with the short bodice. Unfortunately the shirt is based on a man's shirt from the 1840s, but it doesn't look too bad.

If this is of any interest, I hung up my recently acquired Swedish flag over my cupboard doors yesterday. It's still up now! As the country is sort of my favourite foreign country, it seemed appropriate to do so.

I am beginning, (and this is a major thing for me as I normally hate it)to take an interest in football and will be following the World Cup for the very first time!! I will also be following Sweden, hence the flag, which may or may not go down very well with the neighbours!

Uh-oh. Yes, that may not go down well. At least not if we continue to beat England, as we have done everytime we've played for years now.

It'll be even more fun if I manage to find a Swedish Football shirt - we have "dress down" days at work and are allowed to wear these for the fridays and other working days England are playing....

In 2004 when I was in Visby I went out to photograph the sunset by placing the camera on a steady surface as I didn't have a tripod. I'll never forget being asked at that moment whether I was waiting for Sven Goran Eriksson to appear as he was in the news as having disappeared after one of his affairs I think at the time!

The picture, by the way is indeed lovely.

Best Wishes

Paul

Hi Eva,

Greetings from Plum Mountain, my Zen retreat. It's a beautiful photograph, the one thing that strikes me is how happy, the children look... much more so than any in the States. Also the details of the photo, the rich colors, textures & even the beautiful roof tiles. :) It also has this wonderful anachronistic feeling to it.

Hi!
Thanks. Vendela is finally agreeing to smile on pictures. For years shes been making "funny" faces instead and I have had to sneak upon her and take pictures when she wasn't aware that I was trying to take a photo.
