"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines"

I would like to add that though this interesting question focus on gay men we should also be aware of the threats to gay women's rights. Even in this question where equality between people is the core women are often marginalized and their experiences seen as less interesting and valid.

If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks

No offence Eva - but if I choose not to use my journal for campaigns and political comment - and I do so choose - then I don't think anybody should infer from that what I do and do not believe.

I know, it's part of the original message, that's why I kept it. I hardly see you as someone against gay rights.Anyway, I will take away that part, because you're right it does imply things.

To be honest, that was my reaction as well - and the one reason why I felt pressured to post a reply above (after seeing this reposted on two other journals on my flist). I shouldn't have caved - kudos to you.

Not only that, it was worded as badly as any chain letter. The threat always being that if you don't post it you are bad or something nasty will happen to you. I won't post it because of this element. Who knows where it originated anyway.

There is a whole different set of issues for gay women of course. Mainly being that two girls kissing/holding hands is acceptable... but for the wrong reasons in many settings.

That's why I replied to you here, Eva. I thought about putting it out there on my personal list, but you asked here, so I replied here. ;)

I wasn't offended by it. I also didn't realize it was a meme or sorts... ::shrug:: No biggie. ;)
