"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines"

I would like to add that though this interesting question focus on gay men we should also be aware of the threats to gay women's rights. Even in this question where equality between people is the core women are often marginalized and their experiences seen as less interesting and valid.

When there is much arthritic activity in my body I get very, very sleepy. Apart from my hole body aching I feel like I could fall asleep any moment. (Of course it doesn't help that pain makes my sleep short and uneasy). But I have a lot to read and a lecture to prepare, not to mention a 2-year-old to take care of after two this afternoon, when I pick her up from her preschool. Rickard comes home at four-twenty or thereabout so after that I can rest, but right now I can't see how I'm supposed to manage this day.

On page 172 in Jane Ashelford's The Art of Dress there is a lovely striped dress with a wrap over bodice. I wonder if any of you have seen it in real life (I'm especially putting my hopes in [livejournal.com profile] myladyswardrobe and [livejournal.com profile] peronel since you live in England). I wonder about the direction of the stripes on the skirt, which isn't shown in the picture. On the bodice the seem to be almost horizontal, with a slight angle, but I am so not going to have a dress with horizontal stripes on the skirt. There is a similar dress at the Gallery of English costume in Manchester (I doubt this link will work long), where the bodice is cut at an angle and the skirt has vertical stripes. This seem like a good solution, but I wouldn't mind more pictures.

It's the weirdest weather tonight. There has been thunder and lightning for hours now. Huge lightnings lighting up the entire sky making it shine in blue-white, instead of being pitch black as it is at this time of night. The lightnings are not extremely close, but the strongest light I've ever seen in a thunderstorm.
