It's raining and raining and raining. Raining in the winter is normal for Göteborg, but not constantly and this much and what definitely isn't normal is that we haven't had a cold day yet this year. This also not just something I imagine, but a scientifically recorded change. Of course we need longer time to be absolutely certain that specifically Göteborg's climate is changing due to the increased greenhouse effect, but for the world as a whole there is no doubt. And I blame everyone who drives a car while living in a town, especially a SUV, and every company and person who have their little electric christmas candlesticks on even when no-one is there/at home (typical swedish thing).
And myself of course, I consume, I sit by the computer; heck the reason I complain about the rain is that I wanted to walk downtown to get some sewing supplies. But at least I mostly travel by tram and train and try to buy locally produced stuff. And I turn off my telly on the set, not just leave it on stand-by and I unplug my christmas tree at night!

Meh, it's just the weather getting to me. As soon as it stops raining I will be back with a more optimistic and cheerful attitude; deliberately ignoring what's going on with the environment and the world, focusing on my costuming and clothes.

So you think that anything we do to the environment will be OK, just because there is a natural climate instability as well? To me, that sounds as if we should be even more careful of what we do to it. And I don't really buy the argument that natural disasters happen to the Earth all the time, so if the disaster happens to be us, we should just smile and relax, since we originated on the planet. That's like saying "I can thrash this garden if I want, because I used to play in it when I was a kid." Or: "It's God's will that kids die of cancer, just be happy about it".

There is also a huge difference between being "desperate" and being worried and thinking we should care about what kind of world we leave behind us. You do sound pretty patronising a lot of the time, you know.

the End of the World is Neigh!

Surely that is only true if you are a horse.

And this comment doesn't strike you as the least bit patronising?

Then there are definitely things I need to discuss with you, but this is not the right place or way to do that, and I apologize to [livejournal.com profile] frualeydis for letting this exchange go this far in her journal.

Oh, I've been avoiding it, because I'm conflict-shy and I do not have the energy to deal with this now anyway. But I still like you both, just so that you know.
