As some of you know I go by the name Aleydis van Vilvoorde in the diverse medieval societies I belong to; I have for almost 15 years now. Since I'm going to try and register my arms I will also try to register my name, but for this I need documentation and I wonder how much. Aleydis was a not unusual name in the dutch/flemish-speaking areas (it's a variety of the same name as the german Adelheid), but can also be found for example in a Swedish 15th century document. Since the rest of the name is flemish the swedish document probably isn't om much use. But Aleydis was the name of a popular flemish saint who lived in the 13th century, so I wonder if a reference to a good catholic calendar of saints would be enough?
As for Vilvoorde, would a Belgian history book be enough to prove that the town (now a suburb of Brussels) indeed did exist in the Middle Ages?
It's really not a complicated name, it's just a female name and a reference to where she comes from.
