Why should I buy purple velvet?

Could somebody please give me a reason to buy this lovely dull purple velvet that's on sale for ca 10$/metre (110 cm wide). It's the kind of purple that makes you understand why they used the same word for brown and purple sometimes in period. It's rather dark and in some lighting it could be taken for dark brown. But I don't know what to do with it and I'm not buying any fabric without a clear project in mind, not anymore. At least not velvet which can't be used for the earlier periods

Because you *need* a big fancy Elizabethan in it, trimmed in old-gold and forest green, with a large bumroll and a train and sleeves that are big at the shoulder and narrow down to a fitted wrist with wide lace turned back over them

More seriously, get it, budget permitting. There are LOTS of things you can do with that yardage... I think you'd look fabulous in a houpelande with dagged sleeves and it sounds like an Arrest!Me!Red! undergown would be perfect with its color.

because it is purple velvet. Do you need another reason? You know you want a big houppelande and truncated hennin. You need a new 'bethan. A tudor? A Venetian? oooh, a spanish with the big droopy sleeves. Period bedhangings? ahh! You simply must have it. That is all there is to it.

first: it's bloody cheap, at least if it's not synthetic.
second: you can make a tudor thingie from it, like this one, and combine it with come fancy brocande and make it look all pretty-
