Why should I buy purple velvet?

Could somebody please give me a reason to buy this lovely dull purple velvet that's on sale for ca 10$/metre (110 cm wide). It's the kind of purple that makes you understand why they used the same word for brown and purple sometimes in period. It's rather dark and in some lighting it could be taken for dark brown. But I don't know what to do with it and I'm not buying any fabric without a clear project in mind, not anymore. At least not velvet which can't be used for the earlier periods

first: it's bloody cheap, at least if it's not synthetic.
second: you can make a tudor thingie from it, like this one, and combine it with come fancy brocande and make it look all pretty-
